How’s your Elevator Speech?

Wikipedia says “An elevator pitch (or elevator speech or elevator statement) is a short summary used to quickly and simply define a product, service, or organization and its value proposition. The name “elevator pitch” reflects the idea that it should be possible to deliver the summary in the time span of an elevator ride, or approximately thirty seconds to two minutes.”

I get asked all the time, “What do you do?”.  I have a quick 30 second speech but it isn’t until I sit down with potential clients that I can really explain what I do. If you asked me today my speech would be, “My name is Ruby Stone, and my company is Stone Media Consulting.  We help Passionate brands and companies with their on-line communications.  From Facebook to email blasts we can create a program to increase your brand equity and ROI on your social media.”

What does an elevator speech have to do with social media?  Is your message coming through when you are communicating across different platforms?  Is your personality?  What tips do you have for creating a compelling elevator speech?
